Wildlife Photography weekend - Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd September

A great weekend with lots of nice photographic opportunities over the two days.

Saturday started less than promising with cool grey skies, but there were a few moths from the trap I had run the night before & we spent a couple of hours shooting these, from full frame pictures through to full close ups of prehistoric "head only" shots! I'll get some of these posted when the images come over from some of the clients. The nicest moth & firsts of the year were several pristine Angle Shades.

In the afternoon we visited one of the reserves, up on the coast where Lapwing, Ruff, Black-tailed Godwit & Avocet eventually came in close & we got some nice images although we would have loved for the cloud to break & had the advantage of some blue skies! I noted Bearded Tit, Yellow Wagtail & 1 Little Stint whilst the shutters were clicking

We finished the day searching for Barn owl & it wasn't long before we were watching one hunting but no close fly by's for suitable images.

Sunday proved to be the better weather & we started the day with fantastic views & some images of 40,000 Red Knot filling the skies off Holme, also Sanderling, Bar-tailed Godwit, Turnstone, Grey Plover, Curlew & Sandwich Tern all noted in good numbers. A steady Swallow passage was evident with a few House Martins amongst them , plus 6 Yellow Wagtail passed overhead moving south.

Later in the dunes we photographed Wall Brown, Common Blue, Brown Argus,  & Red Admiral butterflies, plus Common Darter dragonfly.

We finished the day with wonderful light shooting Lapwing, Avocet & Ruff after all the crowds had headed home!

First of the images from the weekend.........more to follow.
