6th October Holme Dunes

6th October 2012

A light NW tempted me out for a morning sea-watch. I started a seawatch just after 8am- almost immediately a Great Skua passed overhead, right overhead! Cause for optimism? Not really, a few more Bonxies, including another near encounter 30 mins as the same bird headed back east! 3-4 Red-throated Diver, lots of auks, 5 Eider, 200 distant Common Scoter, 2 Red-breasted Merganser made it a pleasant couple of hours.

A few passerines dropped in overhead, 3-4 Redwing, 3 Brambling & Jays continue to be numerous & obvious - around 680 Jays passed Hunstanton this morning!!

In the afternoon I spent a couple of hours staring to the skies, 10+ Buzzard, 2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Mediterranean Gulls & another Brambling dropped into the Firs.
