11th October 2012 Day Three - Stiffkey, Holkham, Burnhams & Warham
We started the day at Stiffkey Fen, the walk to the pools produced Grey Partridge, 3-4 Yellowhammer plus a few overhead Rock Pipit & Siskin.
At the Fen a Kingfisher was heard & there was a nice selection Wigeon, Teal a few Pintail, plus Avoect, Black-tailed Godwit & Lapwing.
We moved on to Holkham & walk through the woods produced plenty of Goldcrest, 2 Treecreeper, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, Chiff-chaff, Marsh harrier, Sparrowhawk & Buzzard but nothing out of the ordinary. A House Martin was a late one just hawking around the cafe area.
We lunched at a viewpoint, more Buzzard, 2 Marsh harrier, Sparrowhawk & Kestrel all noted, plus 1-2 Yellowhammer & a few skeins of Pink-feet.
We headed to Warham & despite much searching could not find the Long-eared Owl reported, we did however see a Tawny Owl!?? More Rock & Meadow Pipit were noted overhead, & a few Golden Plover.
As we walked back along the lane a small tit flock appeared, a careful few minutes of searching & eventually a superb Yellow-browed Warbler appeared showing beautifully well along the edge of the hedgerow.
We finished the day with a walk out at Burnham Overy Staithe, lots of Brent & Pink-feet, a Marsh harrier, plus a nice small group of Knot, Bar-tailed Godwit, Dunlin, Oystercatcher, Turnstone & Grey Plover.
The day wasn't quite complete because as we headed home, we watched a hunting Barn Owl from the roadside!
