15th October Birding 3 day Tour

Monday 15th October

We started the day at Holme, a Spoonbill started the day rather well as it flew southwards, a few Snipe also passed overhead, a pale Buzzard caused some interest, but was just a Common, plus 2-3 Marsh harrier soared over the marsh.

From Gore Point a few Meadow Pipit, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Redwing & Rock Pipit passed overhead plus a couple of Brambling. There was a nice mix of shorebirds & offshore a large distant flock of Common Scoter were visible, several close inshore Eider & a Red-breasted Merganser passed south.

A fem Scaup was showing very nicely on the Broadwater, plus a Blackcap showed well nearby. Plenty of Wigeon, Teal, plus Shoveler, Tufted Duck & a Ruff.

We had a nice 30 minutes at the Observatory & watched a Blackbird being ringed & processed.

Lunch was at Thornham & was interrupted by nice views of Spotted Redshank, plus Rock pipits overhead.

The afternoon at Titchwell provided brief views of Bearded Tit, a squealing Water Rail, lots of wildfowl, including good views of Pintail & very close ups of Black & Bar-tailed Godwit. Offshore Long-tailed Duck, 2000 Common Scoter, 2 Red-throated Diver, 3 Great Skua were the highlights, although most were at distance!

99 species recorded
