16th October Birding 3 Day Tour

Tuesday 16th October

Birding started at Cley with a seawatch, which  produced a small selection of birds, Gannet, 3 Red-throated Diver flew past. A few Razorbill & Guillemot passed by plus a Guillemot was sitting close by in the surf. 

A few Common Scoter hurried past, & there was a major arrival off the sea of Wigeon, with over 1000 in an hour, plus a Pintail & small groups of Brent. A
 Great Skua  passed east but was distant. 

Overhead Meadow Pipit & a few Rock Pipit called & passed by.

We then headed over to Kelling & had lovely views of the juv Pectoral Sandpiper, again, showing very well.  A few Goldecrest were noted in the hedgerow, but the real delight was lovely views of 2 Red-throated Diver feeding just 10m offshore!


We lunched at Cley & then headed to the hides, we had lovely views of a mass of Wigeon, Teal, Pintail & Shoveler plus a few Ruff & c50 Black-tailed Godwit the east bank, it was now very windy, sadly from the SW & birding was difficult.

On Arnolds marsh there was a good selection of shorebirds, 100+ Black-tailed Godwit, Redshank, 2 Grey Plover, Knot, a few Ruff, Lapwing, c30 Dunlin, Curlew & 4+ Little Egret.

We finished the day at a raptor roost with 3 r/t Hen Harrier & 4 Marsh Harrier. Plus 2 Barn Owl en-route,  & the group had a lovely evening meal before heading back to the accommodation.

Day Two 81 species, running total 108 species.
